Qué es una prótesis dental removible

Este es uno de los tratamientos odontológicos más demandados en consulta. Ya que, puede brindar un gran alivio a quienes lo necesitan. 

¿Qué es una prótesis dental removible? 

Una prótesis dental removible es una pieza extraíble que ayuda a remplazar la ausencia de dientes en la cavidad bucal, permitiéndole al paciente sonreír sin temor a que las demás personas puedan observar en su dentadura algún tipo de irregularidad.  

Por otra parte, entre sus características se destaca que dicha prótesis debe ser removida diariamente para su correcta limpieza, previniendo así que la salud de la boca se vea afectada con el tiempo. 

Asimismo, este tratamiento estético es generalmente utilizado por pacientes de edad avanzada o adultos jóvenes que han perdido una cantidad considerable de dientes. 

¿Por qué el dentista recomienda utilizar una prótesis dental removible?

Entre los principales factores para llevar a cabo este tratamiento, se encuentra, el hecho de recuperar en el paciente su función de masticado, acción que es severamente afectada cuando se pierde una gran cantidad de piezas dentales. Además, supone una ayuda estética para quienes lo utilizan

Por otra parte, el tratamiento es mucho más barato que otros métodos estéticos odontológicos, al igual que son la mejor opción en caso de que al paciente no se le pueda aplicar ningún tipo de prótesis fija. 

¿En qué consiste una prótesis dental removible?

Una prótesis dental removible se compone principalmente de una estructura elaborada en metal, la cual en algunos casos se complementa de una base acrílica, encargada de brindarle soporte a los dientes artificiales dentro de la cavidad bucal. 

Tipos de prótesis dental removibles

En la actualidad, existen 3 tipos de prótesis dental removibles. Cada una de ellas tiene el objetivo de beneficiar la salud del paciente en dependencia del problema odontológico que atraviese. 

  1. Prótesis dental esquelética

Es utilizada normalmente en pacientes que aun cuentan con la cantidad suficiente de piezas óseas para la fijación de la prótesis. Por otra parte, consiste en crear una estructura metálica con ganchos, los cuales permitirán tomar anclaje de los dientes sanos del paciente, para de este modo completar la ausencia de piezas de la boca, logrando que la dentadura artificial no se suelte durante su uso.

  1. Prótesis acrílicas

Las prótesis dentales removibles a base de acrílico sustituyen la dureza y peso del metal. Son normalmente utilizadas en pacientes con una cantidad de dientes menor a la tomada en cuenta para el uso de la prótesis esquelética. Lo que indica, que requieren de una estructura acrílica que se fije al paladar para brindar soporte al masticado. 

No obstante, lo regular en este tipo de piezas es utilizar ganchos que ayuden a sujetar la pieza en la cavidad bucal; solo que, al contrario de la prótesis esquelética, esta prótesis necesita de la ayuda de una base acrílica.

  1. Prótesis removibles flexibles   

Para concluir, esta prótesis dental removible es recomendada para pacientes con una cantidad inferior de dientes. Su estructura es similar a las prótesis acrílicas, solo que, en este caso la fuerza de fijación recae en su mayoría en la encía. Además, son elaboradas de un material más flexible que le permite a los pacientes no sentir ningún tipo de molestia al utilizarlo.
