¿Cómo combatir el mal aliento?

Una de las preguntas que se suelen realizar en las clínicas dentales es cómo combatir el mal aliento. El mal aliento o Halitosis no siempre se debe a una mala higiene bucal. En ocasiones también es un síntoma de ciertas patologías. A continuación te explicamos cómo combatir el mal aliento.

Halitosis o mal aliento

De manera general, el mal aliento o Halitosis se debe a la acumulación de bacterias en la boca, produciendo olores, e incluso caries. Esto se puede deber a una mala higiene o a ciertas enfermedades en dientes o encías.

Alrededor del 30% de la población sufre de mal aliento. Lo positivo en este caso, es que detectando cuáles son las causas de la halitosis, ya sea por un problema bacteriano por una infección o por no tener unos hábitos adecuados de higiene, se puede llegar a eliminar por completo.

Causas del mal aliento

  • Malos hábitos de higiene por lo que se acumulan restos de alimentos.
  • Problemas respiratorios.
  • Problemas bacterianos en el aparato digestivo.
  • Malos hábitos de nutrición.

Cómo combatir el mal aliento

A continuación te explicamos una serie de hábitos que puedes adoptar para combatir el mal aliento:

  • Cepíllate los dientes después de cada comida. Si es necesario, llévate un cepillo de dientes al trabajo para poder lavártelos al medio día.
  • Utiliza hilo dental a diario. El hilo dental ayuda a eliminar restos de alimentos y placa bacteriana.
  • Utiliza un dentífrico con flúor ya que contienen propiedades antibacterianas.
  • Cepíllate la lengua. En la lengua también se acumulan bacterias y cepillártela correctamente también ayuda a combatir el mal olor.
  • Deja de fumar y evita el consumo de café y alcohol.
  • Hidrátate correctamente bebiendo bastante agua de manera diaria.
  • Evita la sequedad de la boca. Si después de comer no puedes lavarte los dientes, mastica chicle sin azúcar o chupa un caramelo para estimular el flujo de saliva.
  • Mejora tus hábitos de alimentación, evitando alimentos con mucha grasa, alimentos azucarados y alimentos que generan mal aliento como ajo, cebolla, etc.
  • Intenta respirar por la nariz.
  • Cambia tu cepillo de dientes con regularidad, al menos cada 3 meses.
  • Pide cita en tu clínica dental de manera regular (mínimo dos veces al año) para que tu dentista compruebe tu salud dental y si necesitas cualquier tipo de tratamiento.
